Things you should know when creating an App for iOS

Design

  • It's not a good practice to use the device browser. You need to change the Open URL functions for embedded webs. You can do this using the "Web screen" in Mobincube. You can find more information about the web screen here: Embedded webs
  • All the images and elements in the App must have the appropriate resolution to be shown in all the devices. This is really important on tablets. Remember that Apple check apps with iPad retina and the resolution is 2048x1536.
  • Design of view info is very important for Apple. For a better design, you have to layout text in a certain manner. The easiest way to do it in Mobincube is:
    1. Insert a table with three columns.
    2. Put 5% for external columns (1st and 3rd Columns).
    3. With the last step, there will be a column in the center with 90%
  • There is still a lot of work to do on the App before it can be published on the main stores. The main stores demand their apps to meet highly demanding minimun levels regarding design, content, navigability and functionality. Design and good practices

Responsive design on Webs

  • The web page that you use in your app was not optimized to support the device screen size and/or resolution. It's very difficult for Apple to approve your app if you don't make these changes.

Navigation

  • You need to add upper and bottom navigation bars to the App. These bars are used to improve the Apps navigability. Usually, the upper bar is used for pure navigation: Go back function, go to home... Meanwhile the bottom bar is used to link additional funcionalities like: contact forms, call functions, direct access to sections... Functionality

  • Maybe the App has buttons without any functionality. This may be because those buttons have suffered a change since the original planning or there just isn't any action applied to them.
  • You should use native mobincube features. Calendar
  • All forms in the app should be native forms. You can do this by using the field element. You can find more information here: Native Forms
  • Apps that are sent to review for the main stores can't have screens without any content or functionality with the purpose of being completed soon. Main stores will reject any App considered as demo, trials, tests or empty templates.

  • To publish your app in iOS you have to make use of all the functionalities available in Mobincube so that it's more attractive for people and, mostly, for Apple reviewers. As an example, you can integrate some native actions for iOS like:

  • It's a very important to set the telephone number with the call function. Apple rejects apps with telephone number without a call function. You can find more information regarding call and e-mail functions on Mobincube Help. There are four ways of using mails with Mobincube: Cloud: Forms Details. Another fancy way to use emails is "MAILTO" if you want your applications to able to send an email from the application, you just need to assign some element as an image or a text, and the action "go to url." When you assign this action, in the field 'destination' where you usually introduce the url, you must fill it with the next string: mailto:[email]?subject=[subject]

Content

  • All the apps considered as link collections will be rejected. Apps considered as link collections are those which only contain links to other webs and don't have content by themselves.
  • The App needs to have its own content. Right now, all the content of the app is placed on external webs.

  • Online images don't load

    Your app has online images that don't load, you should check these images.

Maps

  • Map centering

    For all the sections that use "Maps", don't focus the map where the "Points of interest" is. You have to center it, as you can see here: manual how to do it!

  • You must use Mobincube features. In this example you need put a section maps on this webMap.

ASO

Incomplete form data

The form data "title", "description" and "keywords" are very important when you want publish your app on the App Store.

Your app description should clearly and accurately convey your app's functionality. This helps users understand your app and makes for a positive App Store experience.

The keywords field in iTunes Connect is limited to 100 characters so make sure to maximize this.

Your app description is one of the few opportunities you have to do this from within the store. Keep in mind that many people will browse the store and read your description from their phone or tablet, so it is a good idea to keep it brief and highly scannable. Here are some other tips to make your description an app selling success:

  • Briefly describe what your app does in the first two lines. Apple hides the rest of it behind a More link.
  • Use 700 characters or less
  • Avoid long blocks of text
  • List key features
  • Include user reviews and expert reviews once available
  • Emphasize app’s simplicity and easiness of use

It is extremely important to present your app to the right audience. One of the cheapest and most efficient ways to perform mobile app marketing is App store optimization / ASO.
