UNDERSTANDING CLEVERTAP DASHBOARD
(No longer supported)
The CleverTap Dashboard lets you:
- Understand app usage via real time usage data.
- Analyze users and user actions in your app.
- Find and engage users via easy-to-manage, targeted, event-driven in and out of app messaging campaigns.
Let’s see step by step all of the Dashboard features:
1. Understand app usage via real time usage data
TODAY
The Dashboards -> Today View gives you a real-time snapshot and trend analysis of your active and engaged users and their activities in your application across the platforms.
This view, “New Users” represents first time users to your application on that day, “Existing Users” represents users returning to your application on that day and “Engaged Users” represents users who have, on that day, either viewed more than 2 pages/screens in your application or have had an active session lasting for at least 2 minutes.
The Dashboards -> Today View -> Activity Stream tab shows real-time and comparative historical composite user activity across user action types as well as a representative stream of recent individual user actions in your application.
MOBILE APP
The Dashboards -> Mobile App View shows you application usage and user retention, engagement and conversion metrics across mobile platforms.
In this view:
- “Daily Active Users”, “Weekly Active Users”, and “Monthly Active Users” represent users who have launched your application at least once during the relevant time period.
- “Daily Paying Users”, “Weekly Paying Users”, and “Monthly Paying Users” represent users who have made a payment in your application at least once during the relevant time period.
UNINSTALL
The Dashboards -> Uninstall View presents data on the number of users deleting (Total Uninstalls), the number of users installing (Total New Activations), and the net number of new installs of (total new installs less total uninstalls or Net Activations), your mobile app for specific date ranges.
Please note the following:
- You must explicitly enable this feature in your dashboard.
- For Android, please be sure to be running the latest version of the CleverTap Android SDK.
This feature is available for iOS and Android. Uninstall data is not available for Windows applications.
REVENUE
If you operate an E-commerce or other revenue generating application and use CleverTap to track revenue-related user actions, for example, the Charged user action event, the Dashboards -> Revenue View shows deep revenue-related metrics for your application across specific date ranges.
- Analyze users and user actions in your app.
EVENTS
An Event is an action (viewing a product, making a purchase etc.) that a user takes in your mobile application or on your website.
You can record events using the CleverTap client SDKs and Server API. CleverTap also records a number of user actions automatically.
Using the Dashboard -> Analyze -> Events , you can filter and segment (i.e. group) users based on the actions they have taken in your application.
FUNNELS
A funnel is a way of grouping users who take a specific action in your application and comparing how many of those users go on to take a second action in your app in a specified period of time.
For example, you might construct a funnel, analyzing the users in your application who added an item to cart and then went on to complete the cart checkout process.
Basically, by using funnels you can see where people drop off so you can increase your conversion rates.
You can use the Dashboard -> Analyze -> Funnels View to construct user funnels. You can also save your constructed funnels for later use.
COHORTS
A cohort is a way of grouping users who take a certain action in your application and tracking that group’s subsequent actions over time in your app. In this way, cohort analysis lets you see patterns across the life cycle of a user in your app.
For example, you can construct a cohort of users who signed up in the last month and then made a subsequent purchase in your application.
You can use the Dashboard -> Analyze -> Cohorts View to construct user cohorts. You can also save your constructed cohorts for later use.
TRENDS
Trend analysis is the process of comparing data over time to identify time series patterns.
You can use the Dashboard -> Analyze -> Trends View to see trend analysis on specific user actions in your application, filtered by specific properties of those actions, and/or user attributes or device/operating system characteristics.
3. Finding and Engaging Users
FIND PEOPLE
The Dashboard -> Messaging -> Find People View lets you segment (i.e. group) your users by particular characteristics and/or particular actions they have taken (or not taken) in your application. You can then view detailed engagement statistics as well as demographic and device information for those users.
Moreover, you can save these user segments for use in targeted push notification, in-app notification, email, web notification and/or Facebook ad campaigns.
For example, you might construct a user segment of all users in San Francisco, California who added to their cart but did not complete the cart checkout during a specified time frame. You can then send those users a reminder/incentive message to complete their checkout.
Inside your user segments you can drill down into individual user profiles to see detailed individual user attribute and activity data.
CLEVER CAMPAIGNS
Clever Campaigns are pre-built messaging campaigns designed and based on our experience to help you engage and retain users at particularly crucial moments in the user life cycle:
- When someone first uses your app - the on/board experience is critical to retaining that user.
- When a user has not returned to your app for a period of time, signalling that you may be at risk of losing that user.
- When a user has uninstalled your app.
You can use Clever Campaigns to:
- Turn users who have downloaded your app into regular users
- Encourage existing users to open your app more frequently and stay longer
- Prevent users from uninstalling your app and, if they do, win them back.
PUSH NOTIFICATIONS
Push notifications are a powerful tool to show your users time-sensitive and relevant content and/or re-engage them with your app.
The Dashboard -> Messaging -> Push View lets you easily schedule, target (using user segments) and personalize push notification campaigns to your users. You are then able to see detailed user engagement stats for the campaigns you create.
Scheduling
A push notification campaign can be scheduled to run once on a specific date and time, to run for a specific period of time or to run in response to a user action or user action/inaction combination.
Targeting
To target your push notifications to specific groups of users, you create filtered user segments on the fly or use a previously saved user segment. See Find People above.
Personalization
The push notification title and message body can be personalized per user based on specific user attributes or properties of user actions.
To engage the personalization template menu, type “@” in the title and/or text fields of the create notification form.
Emojis can be included in your push notifications just like regular text. Copy-pasting emojis from Emoji keyboards are the best way to include them in your pushes. Check out this example below:
IN-APP NOTIFICATIONS
In-app notifications are custom modal-type notifications presented inside your mobile app. In-app notifications are great for creating less urgent calls to action than those delivered by push notification, or communicating with users who have push turned off.
You can add pre-set or custom backgrounds and images to your in-app notifications and button-based calls to action, including adding deep links within your application.
The recommended resolution for custom images is 600x1200 pixels, with a file size of approximately 150KB, in .jpg or .png format.
The Dashboard -> Messaging -> In-app View lets you easily schedule, target (using user segments) and personalize in-app notification campaigns for your users. You are then able to see detailed user engagement stats for the campaigns you create.
Scheduling
An in-app notification campaign can be scheduled to run once on a specific date and time, or to run for a specific period of time. The in-app notification campaign must include a trigger action event for the display of the notification.
Targeting
To target your in-app notifications to specific groups of users, you create filtered user segments. See Find People above.
The Dashboard -> Messaging -> Email View lets you easily schedule, target (using user segments) and personalize email campaigns to your users. You are then able to see detailed user engagement stats for the campaigns you create.
Scheduling
An email campaign can be scheduled to run once on a specific date and time, to run for a specific period of time or to run in response to a user action or user action/inaction combination.
Targeting
To target your emails to specific groups of users, you create filtered user segments on the fly or use a previously saved user segment. See Find People above.
Personalization
The email subject and message body can be personalized per user based on specific user attributes or properties of user actions.
To engage the personalization template menu, type “@” in the subject and/or body fields of the create email form.
Be sure to integrate your email provider account in your CleverTap Settings -> Connectors tab -> Email section.
WEB NOTIFICATIONS
A CleverTap web notification is a modal alert-type message view displayed by CleverTap in your desktop or mobile website.
CleverTap web notifications come in two forms:
- Those displayed in a footer of your site. These are available for desktop and mobile sites.
- Those displayed just before the user exits your site. These are available for desktop only.
The Dashboard -> Messaging -> Web View lets you easily schedule, target (using user segments) and personalize web notification campaigns to your users. You are then able to see detailed user engagement stats for the campaigns you create.
Scheduling
A web notification campaign can be scheduled to run once on a specific date and time, or to run for a specific period of time. The web notification campaign must include a trigger for displaying the notification. The trigger can be based on a particular page of your site, a number of pages viewed on your site, via a referrer or based on a user action.
Targeting
To target your web notifications to specific groups of users, you create filtered user segments. See Find People above.
Personalization
The web notification title and message can be personalized per user based on specific user attributes or properties of user actions. To engage the personalization template menu, type “@” in the title and/or text fields of the Create Notification form.
FACEBOOK AUDIENCES
A great way to re-engage users with your app (i.e. get back lost users) is to reach those users via Facebook ads using Facebook Custom Audiences.
In the Dashboard -> Messaging -> FB Audiences View you can create filtered user segments and export that data into your Facebook ads account to create Facebook Custom Audiences. See Find People above for more information on creating user segments.
Please be sure to integrate your Facebook ads account in your CleverTap Settings -> Connectors tab -> AD networks section.
ADVANCED
ATTRIBUTION
The Advanced -> Attribution View lets you assess and score the effectiveness of your web traffic campaigns (e.g. Facebook Ad or Google AdWords campaigns) both together as well as filtered by source, campaign and/or specific user action in your app.
If you connect your Facebook and Google ad accounts in your Dashboard Settings -> Connectors -> AD networks tab, you will also see acquisition cost data included in the analysis.
DEVICE CROSSOVERS
The Advanced -> Device Crossovers View gives you an insight into the cross-device behavior of your users, showing you how many of your users started by visiting your app on one device and then later completed a specified action in your app on another device.
For example, you can use this view to measure your effectiveness in converting your web traffic into paying users in your native app.
